 How to Apply Lipstick – A Step by Step Guide

The importance of lipstick in makeup is very well known. Any makeup is incomplete without lipstick. Almost all girls prefer light makeup at least lipstick before stepping out of the house. But very few are aware of the right way to apply precise and perfect lipstick. So to make your pout beautiful we decided to tell you the right way of applying lipstick hence we consult a makeup artist Garima Jaggi, the co-founder of Rrupantarr salon and she shares the step-by-step method to apply lipstick perfectly.

Materials required-

1. Lip Balm

2. Concealer /foundation

3. Lip liner

4 . Lipstick

5. Compact Powder

Follow the following steps for perfect lipstick application –

Make your lips ready

Dry, Chapped or cracked lips can be a hurdle in the way of applying precise and clear lipstick so we will prepare our lips by exfoliating them. For exfoliation of lips, we can use a soft toothbrush gently or a simple homemade honey sugar scrub  ( for preparing honey sugar scrub at home we'll take one tablespoon of honey and add one teaspoon of sugar in it and then apply it to the lips for 10-15min). After exfoliation, we will apply any good quality lip balm for moisturization.

Make a base

To avoid any kind of discoloration or unevenness we will prepare the base by applying lightweight concealer or foundation matching with lip tone properly with a small fluffy brush. You can also use some compact over this to lock the base.

Line with liner

To make your natural lip line more clear and precise use a lip liner to borderline the lips. You can use three colors of lip liner - nude or light, the same as your lip colour and the same as your lipstick colour (used commonly). Start over your natural lip line from one corner to another both on the upper and lower lips. To define your cupid's bow draw an X shape on your upper lip just below the cupid's bow. You can then fill your entire lip with the lips liner.

Apply the lip colour/lipstick

After completing the above steps start to apply your desired lipstick on the upper lips from the centre, below the cupid's bow to both the corners to cover the entire lip and the same procedure goes with the lower lip from the centre to both corners. Avoid using multiple swipes of lipstick over your lips, it can give patchy look to your lips. You can use the lipstick directly from the tube or through the lipstick brush. But for beginners, Garima Jaggi recommends avoiding lipstick brushes and going direct with the product.

Set your lipstick

This is a skippable step but if you don't want to transfer your lipstick to your coffee mugs, cups, spoon etc. and wants your lipstick to last longer then blot your lips. Set your lipstick by using a soft face tissue. Make the tissue thin by separating its layers then fold it in half, put it in between your lips and press down. This will extract the extra products and oil from your lips. Then at last use a fluffy brush or your fingers to pat some translucent powder to set your lipstick.
